DIY with @thehomeduo

We catch up with Sophie & Jamie, an Olympic couple who have just taken on their first DIY project..

How have you found the DIY process?

Everything takes longer than we thought! However we have absolutely loved it, it is so rewarding seeing the progress and extremely satisfying when you complete it yourself.

Did you have much prior knowledge on renovating houses before starting this project?

Only very minor knowledge from various projects our parents have been involved with. Anything we got stuck on, we would just YouTube and most of the skills are not too hard once you break them down.

Where did you draw inspiration from when designing your home?

We love Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration, there are some extremely talented people out there and we love getting ideas from there.

What is important to you when picking window furnishings?

The window furnishings had to work seamlessly with the entire room/ house feeling we were trying to achieve. We had beautiful Rimu surrounds so it was very important to us that we highlighted these and didn’t hide them.

How did you come across CurtainStudio?

After a ski trip to Mt Hutt we drove past the show room in Hornby and decided to pop in and have a look - we fell in love with the blinds and fabric range, then we got in touch for a free consultation!

What advice would you give to anyone looking to start their own DIY home project?

At the very beginning try and do a rough plan! Whether this is designs, budget, mood boards, it all helps along the way and when things get tough, it will keep you on track! Secondly you just have to get started and parts you are stuck on will fall into place as you go! There will be a lot of unforeseen challenges but you need to embrace them and always remember how far you have come! Friends are always willing to help as long as you make it fun and treat them after with beer and food.
